PEEK as a Potential Material for Dental Implants and its Biomechanical Properties and Osteoblast Cell Response

Proper osseointegration is crucial for the success of dental and orthopedic implants. Titanium-6Aluminum-4Vanadium (TAV) one most popular implant materials; however, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has gained interest researchers manufacturers over past several years due to its lower modulus elasticity compared metallic materials. Porosity patterned surface morphologies are thought improve mechanical interlocking play an important role in differentiation pre-osteoblasts into mature osteoblasts. This study aimed determine effects a macro PEEK on material’s properties proliferation, differentiation, maturation pre-osteoblasts. Mechanical testing data indicated that patterning improved no detrimental effect compression strength. DNA live/dead imaging showed solid specimens did not readily differentiate but instead encouraged proliferation only. However, ALP comparison cells more entered pathway mineralization. further confirmed by showing overall higher amount cell Clinical significance: concludes material increases enhances capability without diminishing properties.
